Information: Meloe cicatricosus was described by Leach in 1811. The body is robust, shiny, usually black or blue-black in colour. A larger species, growing up to 45mm. Widely distributed from western Europe eastwards to central Asia. Sparse and sporadic in Europe everywhere, locally more abundant in the east.

Remarks: Meloe cicatricosus occurs on xerothermic slopes and in dry environments such as roadsides, embankments, railway embankments. It lives in lowlands and foothills. Adults appear in spring. Larval development takes place in the nests of bees of the genus Anthophora.
