Information: Meloe hungarus was described by Schrank in 1776.
Lateral margins of the elytra yellow. Anterior margin of the pronotum and the scutellum covered with golden-yellow pubescence. Pronotum entirely flat and quadrate. Head and pronotum smooth and dull, extremely finely and densely punctate, interspersed with a few slightly larger punctures. Elytra dull, finely and longitudinally wrinkled. Body black; setae on legs and antennae bluish.
A rare species throughout its distribution area, occurring very locally.

Peak activity: February - June
Remarks: Meloe hungarus inhabits dry and warm habitats, often on limestone soils, especially meadows, pastures and forest edges.
It avoids intensively cultivated land - it is more often found on extensively managed meadows.
